Project Description:

The goal of this project is to stabilize and benefit 1,575 acres of barrier island habitat and extend the island's life expectancy. Dredged material was used to create dune and marsh habitat on the eastern and western ends of the island. This project was originally authorized by Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act project and sponsored by the National Marine Fisheries Service. Construction costs of this project are funded through the State¿s Coastal Impact Assistance Program (CIAP).
